Joining SMPS Now Makes a Lot of Cents: Take Advantage of the SMPS RENEW Membership Rebate

March 18, 2014

Today’s post is by Doug Larence, Marketing Manager at Gund Partnership and Treasurer of SMPS Boston. Questions or comments? E-mail him at

RENEWDebuting at the ABX Conference this past November and running until the end of May, the SMPS RENEW Membership Rebate makes it a great time to join the Chapter.  As the Treasurer of SMPS Boston, I manage the Chapter’s finances and recently assessed the cost benefit of attending our events at the Member rate versus the Non-Member rate.  Essentially, it’s less expensive to join SMPS with the RENEW rebate and take advantage of the reduced Member rate than it is to attend only a handful of events as a Non-Member.

Here’s how it breaks down:

  • If you become a Member between now and the end of May, you will receive a $200 rebate check from the Chapter, reducing the $440 cost for first year Membership down to $220 – A 46% one-time savings!
  • On average, the Member rate is about $50 less than the Non-Member rate for our Education and Program events.
  • After just five events at the Member rate, you will have saved $250 off the Non-Member rate and your new Membership will have paid for itself.
  • Even if you attend just our two most popular events, the Holiday Party and the ROC Awards Gala, you will save a combined $100 by attending at the Member rate!
  • SMPS Boston also hosts 3-4 events each year that are free for members: an annual member appreciation networking event, and 2-3 workshops that screen SMPS National webinars – a potential savings of $100!
  • Continuing your Membership after the first year is less expensive than the first year, only $390 per year – which pays for itself when you attend 8 events.

The benefits of an SMPS Membership go beyond the professional development and networking opportunities SMPS Boston events provide. Other benefits of an SMPS membership include the MySMPS online community, access to the national SMPS Career Center, and a subscription to the bimonthly Marketer journal which delivers original, knowledge-based content on innovative marketing, management, and leadership strategies, case studies, and lessons learned.

If you have been attending our events and have been on the fence about joining, now couldn’t be a better time.  Would like to learn more about the benefits of joining SMPS?  Please, feel free to contact me directly at or 617-250-6853 or get in touch with Doug Reed, SMPS Boston’s Membership Committee Director, at or 617-758-7000.
