Back to Business With SMPS Boston

September 14, 2012

A Letter from SMPS Boston President, Rebecca Maloney, CPSM, LEED AP, Marketing and Business Development Manager, Arup

One of the things I have always loved about September is the promise a fresh start, a new outlook. It also marks the beginning of the SMPS Boston year; a time where we all get back to business. With a freshly sharpened pencil in hand, I am excited about working with an amazing board to bring valuable opportunities for education, connections, and recognition to our members and their firms.

I encourage you to join us, and based on my 15-year history with the society, I have some ideas about how you might get the most from SMPS!

Become a CPSM
Whether you are looking to reconnect with the core principles of marketing professional services or to meet a professional goal of accreditation, I think you will find studying for and taking the exam a rewarding experience. Watch for information and study sessions, as well as CPSM-only programming.

Learn something new
Our programs committee continues to develop client focused panels that not only let us learn first-hand about projects and trends in our region, but provide fabulous networking opportunities. September 18th is the start of our breakfast programming, with a great panel speaking on the topic “Healthcare Reform and the AEC Community: The Challenges and Opportunities that Lie Ahead.”

Panel discussions (followed by Mix@6) appeal to a wide variety of experience levels and disciplines. We are bringing back the Marketing Coordinator Bootcamp (stay tuned for the late winter event) and will host a series of informal lunches at area firms where attendees can build a network and learn best practices. Be sure to join us for “Ask the Experts: Presentations” on October 4th when we will hear from clients about what they want to see in presentations.

Be recognized
We will continue to celebrate our marketing successes with a spectacular awards program highlighting the best websites, branding, collateral and campaigns that our members have implemented.

Joining a committee is one of the best ways to forge relationships in SMPS. Interested but not sure where to start? Read about the committees and contact the chair for the one that sounds like the best fit for you!

Support the chapter as a corporate sponsor, event sponsor, or in-kind sponsor. We can help you identify the right opportunity that promotes your firm and business goals.

If you aren’t a member, become one! Now is a great time to join and to take advantage of a full year of programming.

To get started, meet us for Back to Business at The Brahmin. This year members can register a non-member guest for no charge. This kick-off event is always a favorite, and provides a great opportunity to seek out your board of directors to talk about how you can become more involved, or to tell us what you think!

Please feel free to contact me with any questions!
